The Goddess Is Born In a Column of Fire is a large scale textile piece that uses appliqué, beading, and hand-dyed fabrics. The imagery in inspired by classical mythology, and H. Rider Haggard’s novel She: A History of Adventure. The two-headed figure gazes simultaneously at the future and the past, with one foot in the river of forgetfulness, the other crushing a serpent. She is the duality of goddess-as-nature: Darwinian amorality and destruction, versus Wordsworthian beauty and temperance.
